About Farheen
Counsellor in Archway, North London
I was born in India, and spent most of my childhood and teenage years growing up in the UAE, before I immigrated to the UK in 2017. I have lived across several cultures and communities, and believe that adds to who I am today and how I approach my work as a therapist.
I have been passionate about mental health and research for most of my adult life - and have, like so many others, found therapy helped me through several personal challenges of my own.
l have spent five years working as a Research Psychologist looking at self-esteem and body image amongst adolescents, before completing my Level 4 Diploma in Counselling. That research, and my own lived experience, shapes how I understand and work with body image today — I specialise in body dysmorphia and disordered eating, and also support clients with anxiety, depression, ADHD, grief and life transitions.

My Approach
Integrative Counselling
I work as an Integrative Counsellor - which in plain terms means I draw on approaches depending on what's most helpful for what you bring into the room. I work with a person-centred foundation and with a relational focus - so the relationship between us, and what you need from it, always comes first.
I offer a space where you can show up as you are, without having to explain or justify yourself. In our early sessions, we'll spend time getting to know each other and mapping out what's brought you here. I'll ask questions, but I'm also comfortable with silence, and I won't rush you.
I will work with you to help you make sense of what is going on for you, while ensuring you feel safe. I draw on CBT, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis depending on what's useful in the moment, and what you’re bringing into the sessions.
Because of my own background across cultures, I pay close attention to how your identity, culture, faith or language shape your experience, rather than assuming a one-size-fits-all idea of what 'working on yourself' should look like. If something about your context needs explaining, you shouldn't have to over-explain it — and if I get something wrong, I want you to feel able to tell me.
Sessions can be open-ended or for a fixed number, depending on what you need. If you think we could be a good fit, I'd love to hear from you. I offer a 15-minute free consultation, to give you an opportunity to get to know me and see if we could work together.
